Enable partners to perform Adobe anytime upgrades in the Marketplace
Adobe supports anytime upgrades through Switch Orders, allowing customers to move from one product configuration to another before the contract anniversary date, following Adobe-defined upgrade paths.
Partners can:
- Perform full or partial unit transfers between eligible subscriptions midterm.
- Access higher-tier products and features without waiting for the subscription anniversary date.
Prerequisites
-
Set up the Adobe integration, if not done already. Refer to Configure and sell Adobe products for more details.
📝 Note: Double-check all prerequisites, feature flags, and Marketplace settings as specified in this section, even if they were configured previously.
-
Ensure that all target products are set up on the Marketplace. Refer to Set up price books for Adobe VIP to configure price books for all applicable levels (6–9) and products.
-
Contact your AppDirect technical representative to enable the Partial and Full Unit transfer features.
Perform an anytime upgrade
After you confirm the prerequisites, including product onboarding and price book setup, you can perform anytime upgrades using the steps below.
Assisted sales users and end users can run these flows.
As a sales agent
Step 1: Open Update Subscription
- In the marketplace Orders section, open the order you want to update and click Update Subscription to open the subscription update experience.
- Select Partial or Full Unit Transfer. The anytime upgrade experience opens.
- Select the subscription and the units you want to transfer.
Step 2: Choose a target product
-
Under Find a product to update to, click the search box. A dropdown lists all eligible target products.
-
Select the appropriate product from the dropdown.
📝 Note: Only products returned by Adobe’s GET Offer Switch Paths API appear as valid targets. If the list is empty, no eligible target products are available for that source subscription.
Step 3: Configure the target subscription
-
Under Target Subscription, select the plan, existing subscription, and users.
-
Choose the transfer type:
-
Full Unit Transfer — Turn on the toggle to move all units to the target product.
- A full transfer cancels the existing subscription and creates a new subscription with the full quantity from the source subscription.
-
Partial Unit Transfer — Enter how many seats to move to the target product.
- A partial transfer creates a new subscription with the selected quantity and reduces the source subscription to the remaining quantity.
-
Step 4: Finalize
- Click Save to finalize the quote.
As an end user
- Go to Application → Manage Apps (or Marketplace → Manage Apps, depending on your UI version).
- Find the subscription you want to update.
- Click Update Subscription to open the subscription update experience.
- Select Partial or Full Unit Transfer. The anytime upgrade experience opens.
- Select the product and edition, and choose an existing target subscription or create a new one if none exists.
- Select how many units to transfer.
- Complete the purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How are target products determined?
Target products come from Adobe’s GET Offer Switch Paths API, which returns eligible products based on Adobe’s rules. Only products returned by that API are available as upgrade targets.
Can I transfer units to a target subscription that already exists?
Yes. You can transfer units into an existing target subscription.
Can I transfer units for multiple products in one operation?
No. Complete one product transfer at a time. Finish each transfer before starting the next.
Can a full unit transfer be done after a partial unit transfer?
No.
How do I revert a unit transfer order?
Reverting through the Marketplace is not supported. Use Adobe’s APIs to revert on the Adobe side, then cancel the subscription in the Marketplace using the Terminate Subscription API. Refer to Adobe’s API documentation for the correct endpoint and process.
