Work with notification templates

Each AppDirect-defined notification type includes one Default notification template for each of the following notification methods:

  • Email
  • SMS
  • Off platform (the Default off-platform notification requires you to configure the target URL).

If the Default template is the only template, it is used to send a notification when the event associated with the notification type (for example, a product purchase) occurs. Marketplace Managers can define one or more additional custom notification templates that are evaluated in a user-defined sequence before the v2 notification system selects one of them, or the Default template, to generate and send a notification.

The following elements are evaluated for each notification template for email and SMS notification types (only the template priority is evaluated for off-platform notifications):

  • Template priority—Each template has a priority number that the notification system evaluates in order, from lowest number to highest number. The Default template is automatically assigned the highest priority number for each notification type. It is used only if any custom templates that Marketplace Manager adds do not evaluate to True. If there are custom templates, they take priority over the default template. Marketplace Manager must prioritize custom templates that they add. For information about prioritizing the notification templates, see Set notification template priority.
  • Conditions—Each custom template includes at least one user-defined condition. The condition includes a three-part phrase that the notification system evaluates to determine whether the phrase is true for the notification type used to send a notification. The phrase comprises a parameter, an operator, and a value. For example, you could create a condition called Acme where the company name (the parameter) equals (the operator) Acme (the value). The notification system searches the corresponding event to determine whether the name of the company somehow involved with it is named Acme (company name equals Acme). If it is, the condition evaluates to True. For more information about condition creation and validation, see Create notification templates and conditions.

This feature is enabled for v2 notifications. AppDirect must enable version 2 (v2) notifications for them to appear on your marketplace. Contact your AppDirect technical representative if you have questions.

tip

To determine if you have v2 notifications enabled on your marketplace, go to the Notifications listing page at Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Custom UI | Notifications. Click Filters, then select Advanced features. If v2 notifications are enabled on your marketplace, the table displays only advanced (v2) notifications and the v2 value is included in the Version for every notification listed.
