Manage cookies and trackers for privacy compliance

If your business operations require compliance with some regional privacy regulations, one crucial aspect is often managing cookies and trackers used within your offerings on the AppDirect platform. This guide outlines the steps to help merchants manage cookies and trackers effectively to meet these requirements.

  • AppDirect does not provide native cookie management functions. If you require a cookie manager, as the merchant, you’ll be responsible for installing one.

  • Choose a trusted Cookie Manager tool or service that allows you to control which cookies are set on your website or application.

  • Configure the Cookie Manager to provide granular control over cookie consent, allowing users to opt in or out of specific cookie categories.

  • Customize the cookie consent banner displayed to users. Ensure it complies with your compliance requirements by providing clear information about the types of cookies used and their purposes.

  • Include a link to your privacy policy where users can find more detailed information.

Page Script Tags

Cookie management software can often be installed directly on HTML pages using Javascript tags. These tags can be added directly in storefront pages Storefront Theme page Structure using the Storefront Toolkit.

Google Tag Manager

To apply tags to both storefront, account, and other administrative pages, tags can be deployed using Google Tag Manager. Deployment method through Google Tag Manager can vary based on the vendor.

To set your Google Tag Manager on the marketplace:

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Settings | Usage Analytics Account.

  2. In the Google Tag Manager pane, add a Container ID. This adds your Google Tag Manager container to the marketplace and enables you to receive custom event data.

  3. Click Save. Your usage analytics account settings are updated.

Most merchants that must comply with locale specific privacy requirements already have an existing cookie management solution they have implemented at their organization. By using the same cookie manager across multiple domains, merchants can offer a better user experience with prior consent preferences declared.
