Test notification types

Marketplace Managers can send a test notification for any v2 notification type from the Notifications page. Run a test to ensure that the v2 notification system is operational for each notification delivery method (email, SMS, off-platform) that is enabled for the selected notification type.

note

Marketplace Managers can also send test notifications for each template of a notification type—for example, for the default email, SMS, or off-platform template for the Products Purchased notification type. For more information, see Send a test notification for a delivery method.

AppDirect must enable version 2 (v2) notifications for them to appear on your marketplace. Contact your AppDirect technical representative if you have questions.

tip

To determine if you have v2 notifications enabled on your marketplace, go to the Notifications listing page at Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Custom UI | Notifications. Click Filters, then select Advanced features. If v2 notifications are enabled on your marketplace, the table displays only advanced (v2) notifications and the v2 value is included in the Version for every notification listed.

To send a test notification for a notification type

📝 Note: If the AppDirect logo appears in the upper-left corner of the page, when Manage > Marketplace appears in this topic, click the grid icon > Switch to | Store, instead.

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Custom UI | Notifications. The Notifications page opens.

  2. Click the gear icon > Send Test next to the v2 notification type for which you want to send a test notification. The Send Notification Test for: {notificationType} dialog opens for the selected notification type. It displays the notification parameters defined in the selected notification type's associated schema.

  3. Enter the email address to which to send the test email message.

  4. Enter the phone number to which to send the test SMS message.

    Note: There is no need to enter the off-platform http endpoint because the system uses the target URL that the Marketplace Manager entered when he or she created the template.

  5. (Optional) Edit any of the parameter values to contain more relevant sample data for your test. For example, you can edit the first lines to contain values that match the recipient of the test:

    Default parameter:value pairModified parameter:value pair example
    "salutation": "Hello","salutation": "Test notification for",
    "userTitle": "MS","userTitle": "MS",
    "userFirstName": "Emma","userFirstName": "Jane",
    "userFullName": "Emma Jackson","userFullName": "Jane Smith",
    "userEmail": "emma.jackson@fake.appdirect.com","userEmail": "patti.smith@birdland.com",
    "companyName": "Acme","companyName": "Birdland",
  6. Click Send Test. An email and SMS message are sent to the provided destinations. You can view the contents of the test notifications and modify the content, as described in the following topics:

    Important: If you test an email that contains an encrypted pdf attachment with sample data (for example, the Invoice PDF created notification, which requires the user to enter a password to open the attachment), use the following password to open the pdf: Testnotification101.
