Create SMS template content

This topic describes how to define the content of an SMS notification template. The content is the actual text message that the recipient receives for a corresponding marketplace event.

To create a template's SMS content

📝 Note: If the AppDirect logo appears in the upper-left corner of the page, when Manage > Marketplace appears in this topic, click the grid icon > Switch to | Store, instead.

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Custom UI | Notifications. The Notifications page opens.
  2. Click the gear icon > Edit next to the v2 notification type whose contents you want to define. The Default template for the selected notification type opens. The Email notification method is selected by default.
  3. Click the SMS notification method (top right). The Default SMS template appears.
  4. (Optional) To edit a custom (non-default) SMS template, select another template from the unlabeled drop-down list. The selected template appears with the Content field blank.
  5. (Optional) To edit the selected template in another language, choose another language from the Languages drop-down list.
  6. Use one or more of the following to construct the text message content:
    • Plain text—Type characters directly into the Content field.
    • Simple parameters—Click one or more simple parameters or drag them to add them to the content field. These are general placeholder variables. When this template is selected to generate a notification, the selected parameter variables are substituted with actual data obtained from the marketplace event. For example, the actual product edition name is substituted for the {editionName} parameter.
    • Click one or more advanced parameters or drag them to add them to the content field. These are general placeholder variables that contain nested properties or are organized in an array. When used in a template, you must update these parameters manually in dot-separated format. For example, user.address.city.
  7. (Optional) Click Preview. The SMS Preview (with Parameters) dialog appears. It displays the notification parameters defined for this notification type paired with sample data values. For example, the {applicationName} parameter is paired with Office 365 sample data ("applicationName": "Office 365").
    • (Optional) Edit any of the sample data values in the preview.
    • Click Preview. The SMS Content Preview dialog appears. It contains the changes that you made in step a and the default sample data displayed in an approximation of the actual email message sent to the recipient. The recipient's SMS device determines the final rendering of the actual text message.
    • Click Close to return to the Email Preview (with Parameters) dialog.
    • Click Close to return to the selected email template.
  8. Edit the template contents as appropriate based on the preview.
  9. Click Save. A confirmation message appears.
