Manage the unsubscribe feature

The external notifications feature supports the ability for users to unsubscribe from system-generated notifications related to account, product, marketplace, billing, shipping, and other specific types of events.

The following notification types do not support the unsubscribe feature because giving users the ability to unsubscribe would prevent the marketplace from sending important notifications to users about their account:

  • Activate Account
  • Verify Additional Email
  • Impersonate User Request
  • Primary Email Changed
  • Password Reset
  • Password Changed
  • Invite User to Join Company
  • Password Reminder
  • High-Risk Setting Changed

The unsubscribe feature is enabled by default for all marketplaces, and the unsubscribe link appears in the email footer.

Marketplace Managers can manage the unsubscribe feature for their marketplace. You can:

  • Customize the default text that appears in the unsubscribe footer (but not the link embedded in the text) that appears in the unsubscribe footer.
  • Make minor format modifications—for example, text alignment—to conform to marketplace brand standards.
  • Disable the unsubscribe functionality, so that the unsubscribe text and link no longer appear. You can re-enable the feature later.

After users unsubscribe from an email notification, a dialog notifies them that they’re now unsubscribed from that specific notification type. They can click a link to manage their preferences on their Settings page, where they can view their notification subscription choices in the Email address pane. They can re-subscribe to any notification type that they unsubscribed from.

If all recipients unsubscribe from a specific notification type, the status of the notification type on the Events Notification page is displayed as Unsubscribed, and the marketplace no longer attempts delivery for that notification. To customize the default text in the unsubscribe footer

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Custom UI | Notifications. The Notifications listing page opens.
  2. Locate the Unsubscribe Message (V2 only) notification template.
  3. Click the gear icon in the row that contains the unsubscribe template, then select Edit from the drop-down list. The notification template opens.
  4. (Optional) To customize the unsubscribe footer, use the available formatting options—for example, text alignment, font type, size and color. You can change the text, but do not change the embedded link URL.
  5. Click Save. The unsubscribe footer is updated.

To disable the unsubscribe feature

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Custom UI | Notifications. The Notifications listing page opens.
  2. Locate the Unsubscribe Message (V2 only) notification template.
  3. Click the gear icon in the row that contains the unsubscribe template, then select Edit from the drop-down list. The notification template opens.
  4. Select Disable Email Notifications from the drop-down list. The unsubscribe link is disabled for all marketplace notifications.
  5. (Optional) To re-enable notifications at any time, repeat the procedure, but select Enable Email Notifications from the drop-down list in the previous step.
