Additional information for coterm eligibility for NCE subscriptions

Use this topic when you are choosing Co-Terming options during checkout, in a quote, or at renewal and an expected subscription or contract end date does not appear. It explains Microsoft eligibility rules and how the marketplace shortens the list of choices. It does not replace the full coterm workflow; see Coterminosity for NCE products for how to apply co-terming and for other alignment conditions (for example, matching billing term length).

Microsoft eligibility rules​

These restrictions come from Microsoft NCE co-terming rules. The marketplace only offers co-terming targets that pass them.

  • NCE contract end dates only — Only contract end dates from existing Microsoft NCE subscriptions can be used as co-terming targets. Legacy commerce subscriptions are not eligible co-terming partners for NCE subscriptions.
  • Monthly subscriptions (P1M) — Contract end dates on the 28th, 29th, or 30th of a month are not eligible for co-terming unless that day is the last day of the month. For example, an end date of January 31 is eligible; an end date of April 30 is eligible when April has 30 days; an end date on the 30th of a 31-day month is not eligible unless it is the calendar last day of that month.

How the marketplace displays co-terming options​

The marketplace may show fewer rows in Co-Terming options than you have subscriptions. That is expected when multiple choices would produce the same result.

  • Same resulting end date — If more than one existing subscription would co-term to the same contract end date, only one option is shown. Choosing any of the hidden subscriptions would yield the same aligned end date.
  • No change to the end date — If co-terming with a target would not change the new or renewing subscription’s contract end date, that target is not listed.
