Configure payment methods
📝 Note: The Payment Methods page is enabled by default for all new marketplaces, replacing the previous Payment Gateways page. To enable Payment Methods for an existing marketplace, contact your AppDirect technical representative.
You can configure any (or all) of the following options as payment methods to activate them for your marketplace:
- Credit card
- Bank account
- Alternative payment methods (payment methods that have been developed specifically for your marketplace)
When you expand a payment method pane, it lists the gateways that are available for you to select for that method. To enable your marketplace to use a gateway, you must enter your merchant account details (provided to you by your payment gateway) to configure and activate the connector for that specific payment gateway.
You may choose one payment gateway for credit cards, and a different one for bank accounts. You can specify the same payment gateway for both of them, but only if that gateway is able to handle both types of payment.
You can also choose one or more alternative payment methods if AppDirect has created them for you. You can ask AppDirect to enable such alternatives if the gateway you want is not offered in the other two categories.
After you activate a given payment connector, you cannot deactivate it. This is because changing the payment connector for a method is complex, and can have adverse impacts on your commercial operations—for example, it can affect recurring payment processing. As a result, this type of change requires support from AppDirect and from both the previous and new payment gateway providers.
The following procedures describe how to:
- Configure credit card and bank account payments by configuring any one of the payment connectors listed under these payment methods.
- Onboard and configure an alternative payment method that you created.
- Configure an alternative payment method for a connector that was created for you.
📝 Note: If the AppDirect logo appears in the upper-left corner of the page, when Manage > Marketplace appears in this topic, click the grid icon > Switch to | Store, instead.
To configure a payment method
- Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Billing Settings | Payment Methods. The Payment Methods page opens. It displays three payment method panes: credit card, bank account, and alternative payment methods. Payment methods that are not yet configured have the status Not activated. After you configure a payment method, the status changes to Activated and the payment connector that you activated for that payment method appears within the same pane.
- Click the payment method that you want to activate—for example, Bank Account. The list of available payment connectors appears. The connectors that appear in the list are configured by your marketplace technical support team.
- (Optional) To learn more about a payment gateway from its service provider, click Visit site next to the connector name. Some connectors do not include this option, and each website is managed externally by the payment connector provider.
- Next to the name of the payment connector that you want to select, click Configure. The configuration form for the payment connector opens. The fields in the form vary depending on the payment connector that you select.
- Enter the information required to identify your merchant account with the gateway, such as your merchant account username and password, along with any optional information. The information required depends on the specific gateway, as different gateways may have different requirements. You must obtain this information from the payment gateway provider.
- Click Activate. A dialog box opens. A warning notifies you that after you activate this payment connector, you cannot deactivate it without support from your marketplace's technical support representative. You can cancel activation if you do not want to proceed.
- Click Confirm. The Payment Methods page opens, with a confirmation that the payment method is activated.
After you activate a gateway for credit card or bank account payments, the other options that previously appeared in that payment method pane are no longer offered.
A Redirect badge may appear next to some payment connectors. This indicates that during checkout, users are redirected to a different page to enter their payment information. After entering the information, they are directed back to the marketplace.Note You can edit the payment method but you cannot deactivate it. See Edit payment methods for more information.
- (Optional) To test the payment method, try saving a payment method at Manage > Account > Billing | Billing Info.
To onboard an alternative payment method that you created
- Contact your AppDirect technical representative. Currently, the user interface does not permit marketplace managers to onboard alternative connectors. AppDirect provides the support required to onboard one for you.
- After AppDirect onboards one or more alternative payment methods for you, you can activate them in the UI. See the following step for this procedure.
To configure an alternative payment method that was created for you
- Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Billing Settings | Payment Methods. The Payment Methods page opens.
- In the Alternative payment methods pane, next to any payment method that AppDirect onboarded for you, click Configure. The configuration form for the payment connector opens. The fields in the form vary depending on the payment connector that you select.
- Enter the required information, and any optional information that you want to include. To complete the form, you will need the connector URL from AppDirect, and may need to obtain other required information from the payment gateway.
- Click Activate. A dialog opens. A warning notifies you that after you activate this payment connector, you cannot deactivate it without support from your marketplace's technical support representative. You have the option to cancel activation if you do not want to proceed.
- Click Confirm to activate the payment method. The Payment Methods page opens, with a confirmation that the payment method is activated. If instead of a confirmation you receive an error message, click Activate again, and if the error persists, contact your AppDirect technical representative.
A Redirect badge may appear next to some payment connectors. This indicates that during checkout, users are redirected to a different page to enter their payment information. After entering the information, they are directed back to the marketplace.Note You can edit the payment method but you cannot deactivate it. For more information, see Edit payment methods for more information.
- (Optional) To test the payment method, try saving a payment method at Manage > Account > Billing | Billing Info.
