Customize default templates
📝 Note: This feature only supports invoice template customizations. Document Builder, which supports both invoice and quote template customizations, might be available on your marketplace. For more information, see Document Builder.
You can copy default and user-defined templates (templates that you save) and edit the JSON in the copies to customize the layout, styles and content.
Before you proceed, see Invoice template JSON introduction.
To customize a default template
📝 Note: If the AppDirect logo appears in the upper-left corner of the page, when Manage > Marketplace appears in this topic, click the grid icon > Switch to | Store, instead.
- Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Invoice templates . The Invoice templates list page opens.
- Do one of the following:
- Click invoice name | gear icon > Copy template.
- Click invoice name, then follow the appropriate instructions for the type of template you want to copy:
- For user-defined templates, click the gear icon > Copy template.
- For default templates, click Copy Template.
The Copy template dialog appears.
- (Optional) In the Name field, change the default name for the template copy. The name must be unique among templates tagged with the same language.
- Select the language for the new template.
- (Optional) Select Publish template. After you save the copy, it becomes the active template for this language (the AppDirect platform references this template when it generates PDF invoices) and the currently active template status changes to Not active.
- Click Create Copy. The template is copied. The confirmation message includes a link to the new invoice template.
- Do one of the following:
- Click the name of the new template in the success message.
- In the Search box, enter the name of the new template. Then, click templateName in the list of search results.
The invoice template details page opens.
- Do one of the following:
- Click templateName | Edit JSON.
- Click templateName | gear icon | Edit JSON.
The Edit JSON page opens.
- In the Editor console, edit the JSON.
- Click Validate. The Error console displays errors or a message that no errors are found.
- (Optional) Click Template. The template preview appears.
- (Optional) Click Preview PDF. The template preview with mock data appears.
- Do one of the following:
- When errors are found, edit the JSON to resolve them.
- When no errors are found, click Save Changes.
