User synchronization

User Synchronization (User Sync) synchronizes Microsoft product information on the Microsoft Partner Center and the marketplace. The User Sync job runs continuously on the AppDirect platform and checks data on the Microsoft Partner Center. It updates the marketplace with changes. The changes can include domains, user status, user assignments, and tenant license consumption. Depending on the changes that occur, it might be necessary to create new users, assign or unassign licenses, or update a domain status on the marketplace.

When User Sync detects new users on the Microsoft Partner Center, it imports them to the marketplace if:

• The user is active on the Microsoft Partner Center.
• The user is assigned a license for a subscription that is active on the marketplace.

Synchronized users, with valid and unique email addresses, are automatically invited to the marketplace as new users. This happens when the setting to automatically invite the user is enabled.

If a synchronized user does not have a valid and unique email address for a company, the Microsoft user name is stored in the UserSync table. For more information, see View status of Microsoft product users. This happens when the Microsoft Partner Center user does not have an email address, or if the email address conflicts with an existing user on the marketplace. The Company Administrator can invite users in the UserSync table to the marketplace. Marketplace Managers can manually trigger Microsoft user sync and force both legacy Microsoft and NCE user accounts and data to synchronize.They do this on the Company details page located at Manage > Marketplace > Dashboard > Home | Companies > companyName. 📝 Note: During User Sync, information is not sent from the marketplace to the Microsoft Partner Center.
