Segments

Marketplace Managers can target products to specific companies with segmentation. When you target products to segments, only users from companies within those segments can purchase those products. For more information, see Associate products with segments.

To associate products with segments, you must do the following:

  • Create one or more segment groups. For example, you can group companies by country, business type, business size, industry, revenue, and so on. For more information, see Create segment folders.
  • Create segments within segment groups. For example, for a segment group called Industry, segments could include Finance, Health, Government, IT, and so on. For more information, see Create and manage segments.
  • Associate companies with one or more segments. For example, for a Country segment group that has segments for many countries, you can associate each company with a segment according to the country in which it operates. You can include companies in more than one segment. For more information, see Create and manage segments.
  • Associate products with one or more segments. After you create segments, you can associate products in your production catalog with one or more segments. For example, you can create a segment group called Customer Type, add segments to the segment group called Platinum, Gold, Silver, then associate products with those segments. You can associate products with more than one segment. For more information, see Associate products with segments.

Other ways to use segments

After you create segments you can use them for other purposes.

Segments for customer notifications

You can target customer notifications to segments. For example, you can create a new version of a specific notification and target that new template to a specific group of customers.

For more information, see Create notification templates and conditions

Segments for invoice templates

You can assign PDF invoice templates to segments. This enables you to customize invoices with content and design features that meet the needs of specific customer groups. You can create an invoice template that targets a single segment, or a combination of segmentation conditions—for example, Company Administrators in medium-size businesses that operate in the transportation industry and are located in a specific geographic region.

For more information, refer to topics in the Segment invoice templates section.
