Create and manage segments

Marketplace Managers can target products to specific segments so that only specific users can purchase those products. To use segments, you must first create segment folders (see Create segment folders), then create segments within them.

To create a segment

📝 Note: If the AppDirect logo appears in the upper-left corner of the page, when Manage > Marketplace appears in this topic, click the grid icon > Switch to | Store, instead.

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Products > Groups | Segments. The Segment Folders page opens.

    📝 Note: When you create a new segment folder, you can create your first segment immediately after you create the folder. See the last step in the Create segment folders topic, then go to the final step in this procedure.

  2. Locate the segment folder that you want to manage, then click the gear icon next to the segment folder name and select Edit. The segment list page opens.

  3. Click Create Segment, then select one of the following options:

    Build a segment with filters
    1. Enter a segment name.
    2. (Optional) Create a segment code. This is a unique code that you can use for B2B integration through the marketplace API to automatically associate users or a company with the segment. It can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters in length. If you modify the code after you save it, your B2B integration might be affected.
    3. In the filter pane, select a field from the list of available company and user fields. For example, under Company, select Created on. The operator selector appears.
    4. Select an operator. For example, is between.
    5. Select one or more values. For example, select start and end dates for the is between operator. The options available depend on the selected field and operator types.
    6. (Optional) Click the + icon within the same filter pane, or click the + icon below the filter pane to create and combine filters as required . You can use and and or operators to determine which filters are used.
    7. Click Review. The filters that you applied are displayed on the create segment page.
    8. (Optional). To verify whether a marketplace user matches the set of the filters you selected, enter the email address of a user, then click Run Test. You can select a user that you expect to be included in the segment based on the filters you applied, or you can select a user that you do not expect to be included the segment. A notification confirms whether the user is included in the segment.
    9. Click Save.
    Build a segment manually
    1. Enter a segment name.
    2. (Optional) Create a segment code. This is a unique code that you can use for B2B integration using the marketplace API to automatically associate users or a company with this segment. It can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters in length. If you modify the code after you save it, your B2B integration might be affected.
    3. Click Save. The segment page opens. The segment that you created appears in the segment table.
    4. Select the gear icon in the row that contains the segment that you created, then click Edit. The Edit segment page opens, with a list of available companies.
    5. Select companies from the table.
    6. Click Save. A confirmation dialog opens.
    7. Click Confirm. The segment is updated.

To delete a segment

  1. On the segment folder's segment list page, click the gear icon next to the segment name, then select Delete from the drop-down list. The Delete Segment dialog opens.
  2. Click Delete.
