Transfer a Google customer from one reseller to another from a Quote
The Google Transfer Tool allows Marketplace Managers to transfer a Google Account (Tenant) and its associated subscriptions from an external Google Reseller account (example: Reseller A) or directly from Google to another Google Reseller account (example: Reseller B) within the Marketplace from a quote/opportunity flow.
Prerequisites
Before using the Google Transfer Tool, ensure the following prerequisites are met:
⚠️ Warning: Partners must conduct a production UAT (User Acceptance Testing) before enabling this feature, as Google does not support sandbox testing. If issues arise during UAT, contact your AppDirect representative for assistance.
-
The feature is not be enabled by default. Contact your AppDirect technical representative to request this feature.
-
Setting enablement is required. Contact your AppDirect technical representative to enable the setting.
-
Set up Google integration, if not done already. Refer to Sell and manage Google products for more details.
⛔ Caution: Double-check all prerequisites and marketplace settings as specified in this section, even if previously configured.
-
Verify that the Google Products for which the transfer is being executed are present on the platform and are added to the quote being created for a transfer customer.
-
Ensure that the customer has generated a transfer authorization. For details, refer to the Generate Transfer Authorization documentation.
-
Ensure a valid payment instrument or method is set up for the customer.
⚠️ Warning: The transfer process is comprehensive and includes all of the customer's Google subscriptions. If a customer has subscriptions for products that are not yet set up in the AppDirect marketplace, the transfer still completes on Google's side. These subscriptions will have to be onboarded onto the platform after the corresponding products are created.
To transfer a customer through a quote:
- Create a quote for the customer. For information on how to create a quote, see Opportunities.
- Add the customer’s current Google products and their quantity to the quote.
❗ Important: The quote must precisely match the customer's current Google product, edition, and quantity to ensure a seamless transfer. In case of a mismatch, the transfer will not go through.
- In the Additional Information section, check the checkbox Yes, transfer the customer's account. This indicates that this quote is for a Google reseller transfer. Not checking this chechbox for a customer who is not attached to your reseller account at Google, will result in an error.
- Send the quote to the customer for approval, share your reseller public identifier with them and ask them to Generate a Transfer Authorization. This is a standard Google-side process that occurs outside of the AppDirect platform.
📝Note: This has to be manually confirmed since Google does not have an API that allows pulling this information.
- Once the customer approves the quote, as an Advisor/SSR, finalize the quote to complete the transfer and subsequent creation of the customer and subscriptions on the platform.
- After a successful transfer, to view the transferred order:
- Navigate to Manage > Marketplace > Operations > Companies
- Under the Billing tab, check for the latest active order for Google.
- You can also ask the user to check the app tile on their MyApps page or Impersonate them to verify. For impersonation, navigate to Manage > Marketplace > Operations > User > Manage User > Impersonate
📝 Note: Impersonation is not recommended. Please check your company policies.
❗ Important - GWS transfer notes:
- Transferring GWS Subscriptions:
- Check the “Google Customer Transfer” checkbox.
- This ensures the subscription is properly transferred to the new account.
- Adding new product purchases during a transfer:
- Uncheck the “Google Customer Transfer” checkbox for any new product purchase.
- This ensures the new product is provisioned as a fresh subscription, not included in the transfer.
