Marketplace Managers can manually define flat shipping rates that are added to the total amount in a user's shopping cart. Flat shipping rates are applied to products that require manual fulfillment. For more information about configuring this type of product, see Fulfill a purchase.

You need to configure separate flat shipping rates for each zone that you serve if you use manual shipping for some of the orders that users create on your marketplace. You can define different shipping rate types for customers to choose from (for example, free, standard, express), with different rate levels within each rate type based on the total amount of their order before tax.

Following is an example of how you could create a combination of flat rate options.

Flat shipping rate typeOrder total rangeShipping rate
Standard shipping (5-7 days)$0—$100$5
$101.01—$500$20
$500.01—no maximumFree
Express shipping (1 business day)$0—$200$15
$200.01—no maximum$40

After you configure flat shipping rates for a shipping zone, customers in that zone who purchase physical products can make choices about the shipping rates that they pay for their total order based on the shipping rate options that you configured.

If a cart contains one or more products that require manual fulfillment, the flat shipping rate is applied to all of the items in the cart. If some of the items require automated fulfillment, you need to reimburse the shipper.

If you do not configure shipping rates for a zone, the default free shipping rate applies to all orders, and customers are not charged for shipping. The following procedure assumes that you want to configure shipping rates (that is, you might want to include free shipping for large orders, but you also want to include shipping rates depending on the order total).

To configure flat shipping rates

  1. Go to Manage > Marketplace > Settings > Settings | Shipping. The Shipping page opens.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To add flat shipping rates to an existing zone or to edit shipping rates—Scroll to the zone for which you want to add flat shipping rates, then click Edit.
    • To configure flat shipping rates for a new zone—Add a new zone (See Configure shipping), then use the following steps to configure flat shipping rates.
  3. Scroll to the Shipping zone rates pane. By default, a Free Shipping Standard rate is included for the zone, with an unlimited value per order. You can do one of the following:
    • Keep the free shipping rate, with no changes—Every order is processed with no shipping fees, regardless of the value of the order. If you select this option, do not add more rate types.
    • Update the free shipping rate—You can change the value associated with free shipping, for example, you can configure free shipping to apply to orders over a specific total order value.
    • Eliminate free shipping—Click Edit in the Free Standard Shipping pane, then update the rate type name to a different name, clear the Free shipping checkbox, then enter the rate information.
  4. Click Add Rate to add a new rate type. The Per order pane opens. Within this pane, you configure the detailed rate levels for a specific shipping rate (for example, Standard shipping).
  5. Enter a rate type. The name that you enter is displayed to customers when they choose a shipping rate among the options that you make available to them. Make sure that the rate name that you enter matches the default language displayed in the language drop-down list. See the following step for the procedure to add the rate type name in other languages supported by your marketplace.
  6. To configure the same rate type to display in every other language that your marketplace supports, do the following.
    1. Select another language from the drop-down list, then enter the rate type name. Make sure that the name that you enter matches the selected language.
    2. Repeat the process for all other languages supported by your marketplace.
  7. Enter the order amount ranges for the rate type, as follows:
    1. Clear the Free shipping checkbox. This enables you to set the shipping rate to a number other than 0 (free).
    2. Enter the maximum order amount for the rate range. Orders whose total is less than or equal to this amount fall within this range.
    3. Enter the shipping rate. This is the amount that the customer is charged for shipping if the order falls within this defined range for the order's total amount.
    4. (Optional) to add more rate levels within this rate type, click Add Range, then add a corresponding shipping rate for each range.

Important: The minimum amount for each range is entered automatically and you cannot change it. For the last range, you need to leave the field empty (unlimited order value amount) to accommodate large orders.

  8. (Optional) To add more shipping rate types, click Add Rate, then repeat the previous steps to add shipping cost ranges within the new rate type.
