Shipping rates

Marketplace Managers can set up free, flat, or calculated shipping fee options that appear in the checkout flow when customers make a purchase.
Before you can define shipping rates, you need to create shipping zones—for example, Europe, North America, Asia, and so on. Each zone can have different shipping rates. For more information about creating shipping zones, see Configure shipping.
How shipping rates are set and applied during checkout depends on whether the product is configured to be shipped using manual or automated shipping.
- Flat shipping rates—When your marketplace maintains the inventory for physical goods sold on your marketplace, you need to configure flat rate shipping rates for each zone that your marketplace serves. Customers who purchase goods can select one of the shipping rates during the checkout flow and the shipping fee that they select is applied to the total amount of the order. - Calculated shipping rates with fulfillment service—When you create an edition for a physical good for which you want a fulfillment service to manage stock and shipping (automated fulfillment), the supplier determines the cost of shipping, and the available shipping fee options are automatically calculated and added to the customer's user interface during the checkout flow based on the order's total value. You collect shipping rates on behalf of the shipper, then reimburse them through the reconciliation process that occurs off-platform. This shipping rate option requires API communications between the marketplace and the shipper. If you use automated fulfillment, contact your AppDirect technical representative to complete the setup for custom shipping rates.
