Product search ranking based on popularity

Minor Upgrade

Products that are popular (widely used and have more active subscribers) now appear higher in storefront search results. Marketplace managers can adjust how popularity is used in storefront search from Marketplace Search Settings. The search testing tool now shows how popularity affects each product’s position in search ranking.

Popularity data is automatically refreshed once per month.

Benefits

  • Less friction for buyers — Surfaces trusted, widely used products earlier in the list so that buyers can shortlist and buy with fewer dead ends.
  • Stronger storefront performance — Helps turn high-intent searches into clicks and purchases.
  • Easier to manage — Easily adjust how strongly popularity influences ranking, then preview and validate in the search testing tool before changes go live.

📝 Note: Popularity-based ranking can be used together with Sort Rank. Because both influence ordering, they can conflict and sometimes surface less relevant products ahead of more relevant ones for the same search. We recommend that you turn Sort Rank off while you adjust popularity-related settings and validate results. When you are happy with the configuration, turn Sort Rank back on.
