Role and Company access compatibility validation

Moderate Upgrade

Currently, the system allows for incompatible combinations of roles and company access types, such as assigning both Marketplace and Reseller access to a single company. These misconfigurations conflict with official guidelines and often lead to inconsistent access behavior, confusing user experiences, and increased support incidents.

To resolve this, the system introduces role compatibility validation and improved alert messaging for user and company configuration based on the AppDirect’s documentation. This update ensures all configurations remain valid, secure, and predictable.

Key highlights

  • Enforce configuration rules: When editing a user or company, the system validates the selected roles and company access types against the compatibility rules defined in the documentation.
  • Prevent invalid configurations: When an attempt is made to save a combination that violates business logic—such as a company holding both Marketplace and Reseller access—the system proactively blocks the save action and requires the conflict to be resolved.
  • Identify legacy misconfigurations: When a user or company record already contains a pre-existing conflict created before this update, the system displays a warning banner in the configuration view to alert the admin and provides instructions on how to fix it.

This update helps lower the frequency of permission-related incidents by ensuring all accounts stay aligned with the recommended permission model. It also eliminates confusing or inconsistent end-user behavior caused by overlapping or conflicting roles.
